Enrico Margaritelli: Watches for todays Café racers
What is CT Scuderia?
As a former motorbike racer, CT Scuderia is the result of my passion for watches coupled with my passion for vintage elite sports racing as well as Italian expertise. Sophisticated detail and craftsmanship, well-designed mechanisms in all watch functions, and a true feel for top-of-the-range mechanics are of paramount importance for our line. The first of our automatic collections was launched this year at Baselworld.
What is a Café Racer?
A Café Racer is a type of motorcycle as well as a type of motorcyclist. Both meanings have their roots in the 1960s British counter-culture, although the bikes were also common in Italy, Germany, and other European countries. The new Café Racer is really high-end. The cost of these motorbikes is comparable to that of a Richard Mille in the watch industry. For example, my Triumph costs US$ 9,000 retail. If I want to sell the bike today they will give me $5,000 for it but if I want to adapt it to the Café Racer style by personalising the seat, changing the shock absorbers the handlebars, the lights, then making a few modifications to the engine… well, I just need to give them the price limit… Today’s Café Racer is a distinguished gentleman rider or driver. He has a strong personality and enjoys wearing elegant clothes, driving his bike or car and, savouring the experience… He is very different from the original Café Racer drivers, but probably more in his appearance than his inner attitude, as I believe inside they are the same. He knows luxury does not always mean spending more… but simply chooses what he sees as the best.
